He turned, leaning against Legend who shifted her feet. "No Claire there is nothing I need to tell you. I think we said it all two years ago. Baer is just an interferring old man who thinks he can run my farm better than I can", he turned back around to finish his grooming. "If you wanna go look over the courses, I am taking Legend out as soon as I am done grooming her. Sunday is the only day I have to work her most of the time", he explained. He gave the filly one last brush and then went into the tack room.

He could feel his legs about to give on him. d**n Baer and d**n her for coming back. He didn't have it in him to tell her to go away. He had come to think of the Hills as theirs, even after she left and he couldn't think of it in any other way. He'd sworn to her, he'd give the farm to whoever he would marry and he had. And taking the farm back would say he didn't think they would ever get married and he wasn't ready to take that step. Good thing Adrianna didn't know Claire owned half the Hills, she might get upset about it. He gathered Legend's tack and stepped out of the tack room once he gained control of his emotions.

Legend nosed him and Chasing pushed her away, "No squeaky toy", he admonished her, setting her tack down so he could wrap her legs. He did need to start showing Legend but he just didn't have the heart for it. His grandfather had always told him that to win you had be there one hundred percent, if you weren't one hundred percent why waste the money? Chasing followed that motto like he followed the half-dozen other mottos his grandfather had left him.

"Is that an invitation for a classic Chasing trail ride?" Claire asked with a smile. If he wasn't going to try to be friends, she would. He was still stand-offish and abrasive, but that was fine with her. He hadn't thrown her out yet. "If you're going to ride your young one, I ought to do the same." She said, stepping backwards a few steps. "Not I couldn't do it myself later." She shrugged a bit.

How had he been? What had he been up to? What was it that he wanted to accomplish now? These were questions she wanted answers to. They were once very close. They were also very drifted. First because of him and then later because she couldn't stand being tossed about by him. Yes, she might want to hate him, but she couldn't. He was still someone who was a friend and he would always be that way unless he decided that he wanted to never see her. In any case, if Baer thought he needed help, then he really did and heavens knew that he would never ask for it himself.

"It won't take long to get ready." Claire added. She need to hear him say something definite to her. He was too good at running away and pretending things weren't what they really were, she wanted to hear him say it himself.

"Classic? Hardly that. I am out of shape, most days I am lucky not to fall out of the saddle", he told her, kneeling down so he could start wrapping the filly's legs. "We just pop over the jumps a few times", he added, velcroing the legs on one side. With Saint he didn't bother with leg wraps, they didn't go fast enough to need them, but Legend had a habit of clipping herself if Chasing didn't pay attention, which was all to often lately. "Alright, meet you outside", he said, moving around to Legend's other side. Leg's wrapped he moved to her tail, banding it every so many inches so the hair didn't go flying then wrapped it in a plastic wrap.

That done he began to saddle her. He felt something rubbing his ankles and glanced down catching the old yellow tom cat. That cat had been around forever, Chasing faintly remembered him being a kitten twenty years ago and strangely the cat would probably outlive him. The tom kept the barn free of dogs and mice and was rarely socialable with anyone. The cat was getting friendly in his old age it seemed, this was not the first time he'd greeted Chasing though the man wasn't dumb enough to reach down and touch him, that would mean drawing back a bloody stump.

Claire gave a kidding salute and moved out of the barn. She returned the paperwork to the cab of her truck and went to the tack room of the trailer. She plucked out the training bridle for Kleido and snagged a saddle, schooling pad, and girth. Before leaving it behind she popped her scarred helmet on her head and returned to the barn. She went into the stall of Kleido who stood quietly and watched Claire move about in a flurry of movemt. Where Riddler would get anxious and Gunner would approach the door, Kleido stood where she was, completely docile.

The mare was a whole different personality, but she had much more experience with quick tack changes, loud crowds, and random gear. Hell, you could run the Indy 500 by her and she'd hardly bat an eye. For a four-year old it was impressive. She was willing, well-behaved, and a dream. It was why Claire was impressed with the Standardbred breed, they had so much potential.

"Alright, almost done." Claire muttered, tightening the girth after having slid both saddle and schooling pad on her back. She moved it and found it to her liking. She snapped her helmet straps and reached for the bridle, Kleido was in it without a problem, not even a snort with the bit in her mouth. "Good girl, ready for a ride, Kleido?"

She led the mare out and started back down towards Chasing and Legend. Yes, even now Kleido looked like a more refined Ream. Claire moved the forelock out of the mare's eyes and gave her kiss.

Legend didn't have the personality that Kleido did, but then Legend had been spoiled most of her life. Expected to learn her lessons and behave she hadn't been overly socialized to the world. She was fast approaching the age when she needed to be showed and competed but Chasing wasn't interested. A student would come along who would be able to ride the filly, that is what Chasing was holding out for. She did tack up easily enough, accepting the bit with a minimum of fuss though her look of disappointment that it didn't squeak was easily seeable.

"Sorry but the squeak just isn't good for riding", Chasing said, adjusting her saddle before sliding on his own helmet. He'd fallen off alot in the last few years, or rather enough to know a helmet was needed. There had been a time where he wouldn't have bothered with a helmet but that was years ago. He hated to think his skill had degraded that far. It hadn't but Chasing just didn't pay attention anymore to riding. Tacked up, Chasing lead the filly out into the yard and mounted up easily, settling into the saddle with a sigh.
